E3 2014 - Skyforge Hands On


Going into E3 I did not know a whole lot about Skyforge and that is probably a good thing, because after my hands on time with the game, I now know that it is not just another MMO.

Skyforge is more of an action mmo, meaning that you are not required to stand in a singular place to attack, something that seems to be a mainstay of the genre at this time. You are meant to move in this game; simply double tapping any movement key will see your character roll that way, great to avoid incoming attacks.



It’s not just movement that is different, you can change your class on the fly now too. Do you ever feel that about 30 hours into a mmo that perhaps you have selected the wrong character class for you, it was great for a while but it’s not what you expect? Well with Skyforge you can simply swap out your character class when you want and the best part is that all your armour and customisation follows you across.

Class groups range from the Cryomancer and Paladin to the Gunner, Beserker and Lightbinder and each player can take their character to the ultimate level, The Devine. Here combat and skills change giving players a completely different experience yet again.


Skills are also changed up here, you are free to make choices as you want, but if you select each skill in an area the final skill is very powerful, either allowing you to do massive damage or something just as impressive.

Playing Skyforge was a little challenging at first, but the more that I played the more I understood what the team were building. As the Gunner, I had a base attack, but I also have other options I could use. If there was a large group on enemies approaching I could simply use an area attack that would deal damage to a lot at once, or switching again I could change my gun to a mortar launcher and attempt to pick them off from a distance.



Skyforge may not be on a lot of people’s radars at this point, which is a shame. It offers something different from existing MMO’s but also keeps that sense of wonder and familiarity. The game is being developed by Allods Team with  westernisation and more from Obsidian Entertainment
