Horde Mode comes to DOOM Eternal, with the new 6.66 update

Bethesda have announced that the new update for DOOM Eternal, called the 6.66 update, has gone live and among many things, has added an all new arcade style Horde Mode to the game, giving players a chance to replay and earn the best score possible.

With the Horde Mode, players will compete for the highest score by battling wave after wave of demons across three Missions from DOOM Eternal and The Ancient Gods – Parts One and Two, (you don’t need to own the DLC to access this mode though) in this challenging new single player game mode.

You will however need to keep your wits about you, because like a classic arcade game, there aren’t any checkpoints, you start with just 3 extra lives - but there are more to earn as you progress. You begin with only a fully mastered Combat Shotgun, unlocking a new weapon at random as you complete each Arena Round. Earn new Milestones and unlock loads of cool new customization items as you progress.

This is not your average Horde Mode though, each run is broken up into five stages, each having a different challenge, the line up below will show you how it works and yes, there are bonus missions to get into as well.

Competing in the Horde Mode and winning it of course, will see you rewarded with new cosmetics, from skins, stands and more, here are just a few of the ones you can obtain.

Horde isn’t the only addition, Update 6.66 also includes two new Master Levels, Mars Core and The World Spear (This second level does require you to own the Ancient Gods Part Two DLC). Complete the corresponding campaign level to unlock each one. Access your unlocked Master Levels from the Fortress of DOOM or the Mission Select menu.

Finally, if all that wasn’t enough for you, Battlemode has been overhauled and is now Battlemode 2.0 and lets you track your win streaks and more, there is so much included in the update, I suggest you head to the games site to read all about it.

Oh, there are also a host of updates for the game, some general across all versions and some specific to some platforms. The game update is out now for PC, Xbox and PlayStation, Switch owners will need to wait a little longer as the development is still ongoing there.
