Lightyear scores a full trailer and cast breakdown

Disney revealed a teaser trailer for Lightyear, last year and now we have a full trailer for the upcoming Pixar movie, which is what inspired the toy of Buzz Lightyear, that we know from Toy Story, check it out.

The movie is set to release on June 16 in cinemas around the country and will have Chris Evans in the lead role as Buzz Lightyear.

“Buzz’s world was always something I was excited about,” said director Angus MacLane. “In ‘Toy Story,’ there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further. So my ‘Lightyear’ pitch was, 'What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to get to make it.”

In addition to the new trailer, we also got a new poster for the movie, check it out below.

Joining the cast are Keke Palmer, Dale Soules and Taika Waititi as a group of ambitious recruits. Peter Sohn voices Buzz’s robot companion, Sox, and the cast also includes the voices of Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

"The cast for ‘Lightyear’ is truly a dream team,” said MacLane. “Each of the performers immediately inhabited their character, which gave us the opportunity to play a bit during recording sessions. This resulted in a level of specificity that elevated the material and brought additional depth to the characters’ relationships. It has been a privilege to work with such a talented and generous cast."

If the name Peter Sohn doesn’t ring any bells for you, that is because he is an animator at Pixar, but he also voiced Émile back in Ratatouille. Pixar will often get their staff to record temp audio, while they are animating things or even during the storyboard phase, in order to see the picture as best they can and some of the staff have just stuck with the roles, because they become so entwined with them.

Finally, famed composer Michael Giacchino is recording a new score for the film and while his next piece will be for The Batman, this isn’t his first Pixar project, having worked on The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Cars 2, Inside Out, Coco and Incredibles 2, but gamers may know him from the original Medal of Honor games.
