Mortal Kombat 1 expands its roster with Takeda later this month

Warner Bros. Games and developer Netherrealm Studios have announced that Takeda Takahashi is the next fighter to join the roster for Mortal Kombat 1, arriving for all on July 30, or a week early for Kombat Pack owners, check out the reveal trailer below.

Additionally, Ferra, a new DLC Kameo Fighter who can assist during matches with a range of support moves, will be available for Kombat Pack owners and standalone purchase from July 23.

We got a nice blurb on the characters history, so if you are like me and have no idea who they are, this should help.

Similar to his cousin Kenshi, Takeda Takahashi was raised a Yakuza. Unlike him, Takeda enjoyed this lifestyle. That's why he was chosen to end Kenshi’s crusade against his masters. The fight mortally wounded Takeda. Unwilling to let his cousin die, Kenshi rushed him to the nearest help: the Shirai Ryu. Even after Takeda was healed, Kenshi wouldn't release him. He feared that the Yakuza might kill him for failing his mission. Takeda resisted, attempting to escape repeatedly. But as the months passed, he began to appreciate the Shirai Ryu’s selfless commitment to Earthrealm, a contrast to his past lifestyle. Takeda swore to rip up Earthrealm's underworld by the roots, but he soon learns they are stronger and more tangled than he ever thought possible. In the new video, Takeda’s Shirai Ryu inspired moveset is on full display, including his ability to use serrated whips to pull and throw opponents, utilisation of explosive kunai projectiles to extend combos, and mastery of teleportation to attack opponents from behind.

This is the last character to be added from the Kombat Pack, following after Peacemaker, Omni-Man, Homelander, Ermac and Quan Chi. Given that Mortal Kombat 11 got a lot of additional characters after their first pack was done, I would expect more here. EVO 2024 is happening this coming weekend, so a reveal for news from there would not be unheard of.

The game and Takeda are available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch.
