MSI Claw 8 AI+ Gaming Handheld refines the design

As part of their CES 2025 line up, MSI have announced an updated version of their Claw handheld PC, which features an updated design and newer internals.

The big change is to the case itself, which has been refined to fight more comfortably in the hands of its users, which is a good thing as the first generation was quite awkward to hold.

In addition the internals have been shifted around in order to provide a more balanced weight, ensuring that you can hold it for as long as you want, rather than as long as you can. The buttons and sticks have been updated as well, the sticks feature hall-effect components, but now the main triggers also feature the same.

Here are the basic specs of the updated device, you can find the full specs here.

  • Up to Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 processor 258V

  • Windows 11 Home

  • Ergonomic design for an optimal gaming experience.

  • 8" FHD+ (1920 x 1200), Touchscreen, 120Hz Refresh Rate, 100% sRGB(Typical), 500nits(Typical), VRR, IPS-Level panel.

  • Hall Effect Analog triggers and sticks built to last with microscopic precision.

  • Best-in-class 80Whr battery capacity.

  • Revolutionary Cooler Boost HyperFlow technology redirects airflow to cool internal components.

  • Exclusive Macro Keys cast your ult with just one click.

  • Swift transfers and extensive connectivity with 2x Thunderbolt™ 4.

  • MSI Center M provides dedicated interface designed for handheld devices with easy-to-use settings.

A local release or price have not been announced at this time, but I would expect them to come soon.

In addition to the updated handheld, a new accessory line has been released, which includes a new carry case. As the screen on this one is slightly larger than the original model, a new larger case is required. It contains a pouch for various accessories, as shown below, but it also includes a kick-stand inside of it, so you can use another controller to play, if you wanted to.

The other accessory worth talking about is the new Nest, the dock for the device, that lets you plug in more devices and turn the Claw into a desktop like experience, complete with video out via the the two Thunderbolt ports.
