New details revealed for the PC release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Electronic Arts and Bioware have revealed new details about the game for PC players, including features and supported devices, so let’s get into it.
First up controller support, as you might have guessed, the game will support the Xbox controller (and likely controllers with the same layout), but the team have also built in PlayStation 5 controller support, complete with haptic feedback. If you don’t use a controller, mouse and keyboard are totally supported and the game can swap between both whenever you want.
Something that I think is really great is that there is the option for keybinds, but where the great comes in is with the ability to set up class specific keybinds, so if you swap between a Rogue and Warrior frequently, you can have your keys follow with that swap.
Another common feature the game will support on PC is the 21:9 Ultrawide resolution, ensuring that you can really enjoy the gameplay in full on your monitor. But something that I wish every other developer would adapt is that in the settings you can turn off “Cinematic Aspect Ratio“ option, to remove the black bars above and below the cinematics. The usual suspects like Field of View sliders will be included, as will the ability to uncap the framerate and enable HDR.
Speaking of HDR, one aspect that makes that really shine is Ray Tracing and the game will support that as well, in a few ways. Unlike some games where its either on or off, or worse baked into the full game, here there will be options. You can enable them as you like, they are Ray-Traced Reflections, Ray-Traced Ambient Occlusion and Ultra Ray Tracing. If you want the game to look its best, but are unsure about what settings you need for Ray Tracing, you can use the games Selective mode, which will turn it on in areas that are prime to take full advantage of the feature. You can watch a video here, to see the game in action on PC using Nvidia features.
Finally, the game will launch day on on Steam with full Steam Deck support. Not that it means anything for Australia a the device is not officially available here, but should you have one, you will be able to play the game on your PC at home and on the go. The game also supports Steam Cloud Saves, so your progress will follow you no matter the PC you play on.
You can discover the full list of features here, with the game launching on October 31st for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and of course, PC.
