PlayStation Access will open the door to more gamers this December
Over the years more and more companies have started to include accessibility offerings inside their games, PlayStation being the leader in my opinion, but on the hardware side they have been behind the ball. That changes on December 6 when the PlayStation Access Controller is released around the world.
The Access Controller is just what you think it would be, a controller designed for gamers with mobility issues, for whom using a regular controller is either not possible or not feasible for long periods of time. The controller was debuted earlier in 2023 under the name Project Leonardo (named after the famed inventor, not the Ninja Turtle) and since then the team have been refining.
On the PlayStation 5, players can map buttons to create up to 30 control profiles, adjust stick settings, toggle commands on/off, or disable buttons altogether to stop accidental pressing. You can even pair up to two Access controllers and one DualSense wireless controller together and use them collaboratively.
Below is an image to show off everything that you get in the box, including the base unit and cable. The other parts have been called different names, with PlayStation providing them for us. There are wide flat (C), overhang (D), pillow (E), flat (F), and curve (G) button caps, as well as ball (H), dome (I) and standard (J) stick caps, and button cap tags (K)
Orders for the controller will kick off on July 21st, that is next week, but again the shipping won’t happen until December.
