Quake II is bringing the iconic shooter back, complete with new content and more

Bethesda have announced that Quake II is back, remastered for modern PC and consoles, following in the footsteps that Quake did 2 years ago, check out the trailer for it below.

Much like the Quake Remaster, Quake II Remaster doesn’t just drop the old game on modern platforms, but rather overhauls everything, from the visuals and sound, to the content within.

Quake II’s legendary gameplay, preserved and complete with the original soundtrack by Sonic Mayhem, now enhanced with widescreen support, restored content previously left on the cutting room floor, visual and performance upgrades to make every muzzle flash and gib-plosion pop on-screen and even new levels.

Much like what they have done with the older Doom games and Quake, The enhanced release of Quake II comes with both expansions for the original game, Mission Pack: The Reckoning and Mission Pack: Ground Zero, adding over 30 additional single player levels and over 20 Deathmatch maps. It also includes Call of the Machine, an all-new expansion created by Wolfenstein: The New Colossus developer, MachineGames. Consisting of 28 campaign levels plus a brand-new Deathmatch map, fight across time and space to find the Strogg-Maker, destroy it and change fate itself.

Quake II also includes its Nintendo 64 port, something I personally played a lot. Originally published by Midway exclusively for Nintendo 64, this fan-favourite release is now available for all Quake II owners, complete with modern enhancements.

PC owners of the game will also get a free update to their release, bringing in the new enhancements, but don’t worry, the original version will remain as well.

Finally, the game supports full crossplay, so you can jump into the legendary multiplayer with friends, no matter the platform. A full breakdown of the updates, mods and more can be found here.
