Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege X is evolving this June
Ubisoft have announced Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege X, an updated version of the Siege format, which is taking advantage of new engine updates, modern hardware and more. The update is arriving on June 11, check out the reveal trailer for it below.
The first big news from the reveal of Siege X is that on June 11, when the update releases, Rainbow Six Siege will also be free to access. New players will have free access to Dual Front, Unranked, and Quick Play modes, with the ability to earn up to 26 operators through progression. Those who want to can buy a Premium Pass and earn more rewards, but that is entirely optional. For those who have been playing the game for the past 10 years worry not, all previously unlocked content will remain with your account and there will even be special rewards for those veteran players.
So what makes Siege X special, well apart from it going free to access, the game is getting a visual overhaul across the board. At launch five maps will be updated to reflect the updated look, hey are Clubhouse, Bank, Chalet and Cafe, you can see their before and afters below.
But fancy looking maps is not all that the new update is bringing. There will also be new destructible ingredients, including fire extinguishers, gas pipes and metal detectors, will offer players more strategic opportunities to surprise and outplay their opponents, using the environment to their advantage. Rappel navigation will be more fluid with improved controls, allowing players to run horizontally and jump around building corners.
But wait, there is more! The game is overhauling its audio work as well, including a rework of audio propagation and reverberation, enabling players to gather critical intel through audio cues to better pinpoint the location of enemy players on the map.
If all this sounds great, but you worry about jumping in now, don’t worry as the team are creating a new onboarding experience in order to welcome new players, with updated tutorials and more.
But wait, there is still even more. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege X will bring a new game mode to players, at least on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Dual Front. This is a new and more importantly permanent 6v6 mode, where players must secure three enemy sectors while defending their own. Now if you are thinking that the current maps would not support something like this, you would be right, which is why the new mode takes place on a new map called District.
Throughout the match, players can venture into the Neutral Sector to take on time-limited assignments and earn rewards that will help their squad gain an edge over their opponents. While these tasks can alter the course of the match, they also require strategic decision-making, as pursuing them may leave key positions vulnerable to the opposing team.
Finally, players will have the ability to respawn and repick a new operator for tactical adjustments upon their death, meaning you can try someone else out if you keep failing. This means the new mode offers a more approachable experience for both new and current players. Dual Front will receive regular updates, with the selection of curated operators rotating twice a season and Neutral Sector assignments changing each season.
The final thing announced, this is more good to know but really shouldn’t impact anyone who plays fairly, but the games anti-cheat methods are being overhauled as well. All the existing systems are being brought under one umbrella and the new system will allow the developers to release updates, without taking the game offline. Which technically means if they discover people abusing the game via a new method, they could release a fix while you are playing and you might not realise.
Now I would not be remiss to point out that, yet again, this is not a true Rainbow Six game and I really hope that Ubisoft create another proper entry soon.
