Samsung are taking the computer screen to insane levels

As part of their offerings at CES 2023, Samsung were on display to showcase a number of monitors, some of them are aimed at the PC gamer, some are general PC displays, but far and away the biggest one is literally the biggest display. Say hello to the Odyssey Neo G9 Gaming Monitor, a staggering 57inch curved display.

The display is 57inches on the angle, which means the resolution of the display is an insane 7,680×2,160 and has an aspect ratio of 32:9. The display is made up of quantum mini LED technology, with VESA Display HDR 1000 specification that aims to deliver the most superior imaging in most game environments, from shadows to bright scenes. The Matte Display reduces light reflection on the screen, minimising distractions during the most intense gaming sessions.

It also boasts the world’s first DisplayPort 2.1 support, which transfers data approximately twice as fast as the previously used DisplayPort 1.4. In addition, the new DP2.1 allows lossless industry-standard Display Stream Compression (DSC) to transmit information without distortion.

The Odyssey Neo G9 also supports a refresh rate of 240Hz, so that gamers will not miss a thing during fast-paced gameplay.

Those are all nice details, but sadly the important ones are unknown, which are the release date and the price. Given their 49inch ultra wide curved display from 2019, still has a retail price of $2000, I can’t see this display launching for anything less than $4000, but who really knows.

There are also questions about inputs, namely will the display allow for two signals at once, something other ultrawides allow for, but again, until they feel the need to fully reveal those details, we just have to wait and see.
