Screamer drops a gameplay introduction, showing how this twin stick racer works

Milestone have released a gameplay introduction video that shows off the gameplay that players can look forward to when Screamer races onto the scene next year, check it out.

While much of the game will play like a traditional racer, the games Twin Stick control system lets you steer with one stick and drift with the other. This makes turning and drifting easier and gives you better control than regular arcade racers.

As explained in the video, at the heart of Screamer are teams composed of three characters, with each team led by a designated leader who is supported by two additional members. While the members’ cars are primarily focused on the fighting dynamics and combat abilities, the leaders’ cars are specifically designed for maximum speed and top-tier performance, providing players with a distinctly different challenge to master. With a total of 15 different cars available, each one equipped with unique skills and attributes, discovering the character that best fits an individual’s playstyle will be a fundamental part of the gameplay experience.

The characters’ skills are deeply rooted in the game’s intricate narrative framework, which also serves as the foundation for one of the core gameplay elements: the innovative Echo System. This advanced technology is installed on every vehicle within the game, providing a unique mechanic that fuels both the racing and fighting aspects through the management of two distinct types of resources: Sync and Entropy. Once accumulated, Sync can be strategically used to boost speed and activate protective shields, while Entropy powers two dynamic fighting actions known as Strike and Overdrive. Serving as a significant plot device as well as a gameplay mechanic, the Echo System will be examined and explained in much greater detail during the second part of the interview.

The game is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S sometime in 2026.
