Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League has been delayed and will now release in 2024
After revealing the gameplay earlier in the year, reactions to Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League were mixed at best, with many players not happy with the live service model and other things.
It seems that the developers have taken some feedback to heart and decided to delay the game from its planned end of May release, until February 2nd 2024, the statement from them is below.
Delays are pretty common in the games industry, but this marks the third major delay for the game. It was first announced in August of 2020 during the DC Fandome event, with a unique trailer and then it went silent for a full year, popping up in 2021’s Fandome event. At the end of 2021 the game popped up at The Game Awards and provided the release year of 2022 and then in March of 2022, the game was delayed until 2023.
Then again at The Game Awards we got a trailer showing off Batman and the then still confirmed window of ‘Spring’ 2023. In February of this year a State of Play for the game was where we got our first actual gameplay reveal, all the other trailers were more cinematic in nature and the response was not great.
While the core gameplay seemed ok-ish, people did not like the live service aspect, even when playing solo and they did not enjoy the battle pass, even if the items were cosmetic. But I think what really drove people around the bend on this one, is that it just looked like a generic game and nothing like what the studio that revitalised the superhero videogame genre, with Batman: Arkham Asylum was capable of.
This marks the third delay for the game and with each, they have been massive in the amount of time that was taken, between its reveal and currently release date, we are looking at almost 4.5 years and the studio hasn’t shipped a full game since 2015’s Arkham Knight. Things might not be that good for the studio, given the founders left before this game released, even if they popped up in the State of Play. One can only hope that all this time will be well spent by the time the game does get released.
