Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition gets a much needed update
Square Enix released a lot of games in 2022 and while some did well and some did poorly, others were just sort of there, which is where Chrono Cross sat. The game was received well, but there were a number of complaints that people had about the game, today an update has been released that should address most of the complaints.
One of the big changes to the game is its not 60fps, as opposed to the 30fps it launched at. That 60fps is on all platforms as well, but there are some restrictions on Switch and PC. Here are the notes direct from Square Enix about them:
The final battle on the Switch version will have a maximum frame rate of 30 fps. Please note that the speed of some Element animations may vary by platform, but this has no significant impact on the gameplay.
When using the hardware stated in the recommended specs for the Steam version, you can expect the game to run at an average of 60FPS (30FPS maximum outside of battle scenes). However, due to the rendering system used in the game, it is possible that when using certain graphics cards, some scenes with particularly high load may not run at 60FPS. The cards we have observed this occurring with are in the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series.
The update in the frames the game can deliver is likely going to make many players happy. Of course, in addition to this there were also some various bug fixes and tweaks, as with all updates.
The update has also made adjustments to Pip and when I say that they are not minor, I mean that in the official patch notes, there are graphs and tables to indicate the new values and such. So be sure to check them out if you are worried about losing Pip’s form if you start a new game+
