Meet the new Razer Blade 15, packed with a lightspeed keyboard
Razer have announced that the Blade laptop, at least the 15 inch model is getting a massive upgrade in the keyboard department, with the addition of an optical keyboard.
But what is an optical keyboard I hear you ask, well instead of use mechanical parts to it uses light in order to capture when you press the key. What it means is that you will not encounter the wear and tear that comes with standard mechanical keyboards, whilst increasing the amount of key strokes. Previously most laptop keyboards would hover around 50 to 70 million keystrokes, but this one, it can do 100 million.
“Razer is a company built on firsts, we focus on pushing the envelope to provide gamers with the best-in-class hardware,” says Brad Wildes, Senior Vice President of Razer’s Systems Division. “Our Razer Blade 15 laptop with the new optical laptop keyboard is the first of its kind, providing gamers with the most advanced switch technology on the market anywhere they go.”
The point of actuation, or the time it takes between you press the key down, to when it responds is all of 1mm of travel, going hands on at PAX Australia recently, proved it will take some getting used to, as just resting hands on the keyboard would pick up some movement, it is that simple.
If you are someone who rocks the Chroma setup, then you will be happy to know that each key is independently lit, meaning you can light up your keyboard however you choose. The Razer Blade 15 optical keyboard also features N-Key Rollover (NKRO) with anti-ghosting. As the optical keyboard utilizes light to register inputs instead of a traditional physical contact, the optical keyboard features zero debounce to ensure that only one stroke is registered instantly without any delay.
While it is available on Razer.com, it wont be around to our part of the world until mid-November at the earliest.
