The Final Shape, the upcoming final expansion for Destiny 2 has been delayed
Bungie had previously announced that The Final Shape, the final expansion for Destiny 2 would release in February 2024, but that has changed today, with the expansion slipping to June 5th.
The reason is the usual, they want more time to get the experience right for players, which given the game has been running for 6 years, players are likely quite demanding on the content they get. You can learn more from Joe Blackburn, the games Director in the video at the bottom.
Of course, there was a season set to launch this week, Season of the Wish was set to run through to the end of February, and would end just as the expansion was set to launch. Given the delay the team have announced that it will be extended until the new June release date. This means that season will run for six months, not three as originally planned.
The content release schedule will be the same as was advised, but once the end of February releases, new content that the team are currently working on, will be added. There is no details on what that content will included.
In April a two-month content update will be made available to everyone called Destiny 2: Into the Light, which should prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler. All of this is in addition to the ongoing efforts from the games PvP Strike Team, including three new PvP maps dropping in May.
